The Northern Tablelands Local Land Services region is a distinctive highland area of New South Wales with undulating hills, valleys, plateaus and mountains straddling the top of the Great Dividing Range.
With an average elevation exceeding 1000 metres above sea level, the Northern Tablelands has a temperate climate with mild summers and cold winters with frosty mornings and occasional snowfalls.
The Northern Tablelands productive rural communities predominantly producing:
- beef
- sheep
- wool.
Significant smaller industries include:
- forestry
- apples and stone fruit
- potatoes
- glasshouse tomatoes
- dairy farms
- alpacas
- cool climate wineries.
Regional advisory groups
Local Community Advisory Groups ensure we meet our community's needs and are a legislative requirement under the Local Land Services Act 2013.
The Aboriginal Reference Advisory Group (ARAG) was established in 2007 under the Border Rivers-Gwydir Catchment Management Authority to create a formal platform for feedback and advice and continues under the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services.
The ARAG actively enhances partnerships, investment and opportunities for Aboriginal development and protects and maintains Aboriginal cultural heritage on the Tablelands. It also ensures that the integrity of Aboriginal traditional knowledge is respected in the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services and in the information and advice it delivers.
The ARAG is made up of representatives from the Local Aboriginal Land Councils in the Northern Tablelands region:

- Thungutti (Bellbrook)
- Armidale
- Guyra
- Anaiwan (inverell/Tingha)
- Ashford
- Guyra
- Glen Innes
- Moombahlene (Tenterfield)
- Jubullum (Drake/Tabulam)
- Toomelah.

The Northern Tablelands Regional Pest Animal Committee provides advice on pest animal control activities in the Northern Tablelands LLS region.
