Animal health conditions to watch out for
Managing livestock and 'green pick' - Recently, parts of our region experiencing dry times have received some very welcomed rainfall. After this rainfall, we might start to see some short, green growth, or ‘green pick’, appear in paddocks. Short, green feed is usually high in water content and low in key nutritional components such as metabolisable energy and protein. Therefore, livestock would need to consume large amounts to meet their requirements which is often not possible under these circumstances. If you have been supplementing livestock diets with grains or hay, it is important to maintain these rations beyond this initial period of green growth to ensure that the requirements of livestock are still being met
