My name is Erlina St Vincent, I’m the General Manager

of the Western region of Local Land Services

I work with a team that are located all the way from

Dubbo to Broken Hill, and from Mildura to Tibooburra.

I moved to Bourke from Dubbo a few years ago

I wanted to be closer to the region

where our customers are, where our stakeholders are

and be able to be closer to our staff

so moving to a more remote location

has actually given me more opportunities

to build my career as a manager

and as a leader of people

and I’ve been able to be

more connected with the customers

that we support as well

what this means for me

is I get to start almost every day

early in the morning

with my dog and my horse, out in the paddock

get to see the sunrise in this beautiful landscape

and prepare myself for the day ahead

we’ve got really great opportunities for flexible working

in this organisation

for me, sometimes I get to work at home

I get rained in sometimes and can’t get into town

other times I need to focus on a task

and get some work done

we also have a great office location

I get to come into town

to work in this beautiful building

to work with people I enjoy working with

and have a great day with a great team of people

we work across a diverse set of

functions and roles in this organisation

we work in biosecurity, animal welfare, agriculture

natural resource management and

Aboriginal cultural heritage

you can learn different skills

working here, living here that provides me with the lifestyle that I want

and that I want for my family and that, for me, is what’s most important

my name’s Charlie Whiteley

I’m a communications officer with Local Land Services based here in Dubbo

my role is office based

I can do it from anywhere in the state but, you know, I still choose to live in Dubbo

I still choose to work here in Dubbo

I work from the office but as needed I could work from home

I can temporarily work from other locations but Dubbo offers all the services

and the amenities you’d need it’s got great restaurants, pubs, cafes

you’re really spoiled for choice when you’re living here in Dubbo

it attracts major sporting events it attracts major cultural events

we’ve got an airport here that connects us with Sydney

connects us with Brisbane, with Melbourne a lot of other regional NSW centres, so

5 minutes you’re at the airport an hour later you’re in Sydney or Melbourne or Brisbane

but it’s small enough that you can still walk to parks, you can walk around town

you can ride your pushbike and get anywhere you need to be

you’re living in, and part of such a vibrant community

so my wife and I and my kids, we’re all zoo-friends

so we’re members there with an annual pass and we get to go there as often as we want

we go there, we walk around, we ride our pushbikes around

we look at all the different animals we breathe in the fresh air, we get to exercise

you know, its such a good place on our doorstep we couldn’t be happier living here

being in an organisation that is set up for people to work remotely or from home

gives you that much more value

gives your organisation that much more value

things like flexible working

paid parental leave that’s been something thats been hugely important for me and my family

and I think the importance of that has flowed into the community, and flowed into my work when I have returned to work

in your career if you want to progress they’ll support you there with training

if you want to put your career on hold for a while

and focus on your family or interests outside of work they’ll give you those opportunities as well

but it’s not just the organisation it’s the people that work for that organisation

they’re aware of what you’re up to outside of work they have an interest in what you’re up to outside of work

benefits Western NSW and I really think it is quite rare

a lot of organisations talk the talk but Local Land Services certainly walk the walk

so you put all of this together

that’s why I love working for Local Land Services

thats why I love living here in Dubbo NSW gives me the best of both worlds and I couldn’t be happier the work/life balance that is the best

I’m Alana, a biosecurity officer based out in Bourke. I’ve been in Bourke for about 2 years now I actually headed East to get to Western NSW.

I came all the way over from Perth to Bourke and spent about 5 days in my car to get here I really value the work I do out here I have a positive impact on improving the country and assisting all the landholders that live within it.

I’ve always had an interest in biosecurity it’s a very diverse role and you cover plenty of ground the majority of the work that you do is a lot of pest management not just on the individual scale but within a group, and sometimes even region-wide projects Bourke’s a Mecca for young professionals there’s teachers, health workers, and police all here to get experience early in their career. 

Bourke’s a dynamic community of young people there’s always something going on and plenty of social life to experience there’s all the facilities that you’ll need here you get your shops, your gym, and plenty of sporting teams but best of all the bush is right on your doorstep so there’s plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. I’m definitely an outdoorsy person, I work in a fantastic landscape and that’s where I like to spend my free time so yeah, the outdoor lifestyle that’s the best thing.
