Building land literacy - empowering local land managers
North Coast Local Land Services is inviting landholders to take part in a new Land Literacy workshop series, designed to build practical skills for managing and enhancing natural assets.
The three-part program will give participants the tools to better understand their land, improve ecological condition and increase productive potential.
“Healthy landscapes underpin sustainable farming, and these workshops will give land managers the confidence to read their land and make informed management decisions” said Vince Parisi, Natural Capital Advisor with North Coast Local Land Services.
Across the three-workshop series, participants will explore catchments, geology, soils and ecological systems, and consider how these link production and ecological function. They will also gain practical insights through farm walks and group discussion to assess land condition, while learning about current opportunities to engage in environmental markets.
Vince continued, “The final workshop focuses on reading your land in detail, with activities and a site visit to help participants assess the condition of natural assets on their own farm.”
The Land Literacy program is delivered as a three-part series and attendance at the first workshop is essential, as it provides the foundation for the following two sessions. Workshops will be held on:
- Tuesday, 21 October – Landscapes and catchments.
- Wednesday, 5 November – Environmental markets, farm walk and restoration planning.
- Wednesday, 12 November – Reading your land, self-assessing land condition and site visit.
