Landholders encouraged to take advantage of fox baiting incentive in Far West NSW

Through Western Local Land Services’ Western fox baiting project 2026-27, any landholder that purchases 1080 fox baits in spring 2026 and meets the eligibility criteria, can receive the same amount of fox baits in autumn 2027 for no further cost.  

Western Local Land Services Regional Pest Animal Coordinator, Danielle Barrett wants landholders to make the most of the incentive opportunity.  

“Controlling foxes and reducing predation on livestock supports farm businesses to be more profitable,” Danielle said.

“The support on offer through the Western fox baiting project essentially halves the cost of your seasonal fox baiting while also promoting collaboration between neighbouring properties.

“Controlling foxes also reduces impacts to native animals and the local environment, offering further benefits for landholders.

Through the project, the price for 1080 wing baits is reduced from $0.70 to $0.60 each, with Western Local Land Services biosecurity officers to work with eligible landholders to determine the number of baits based on property size and other factors. 

To participate in the Western fox baiting project, landholders must be eligible as per the following conditions:  

• be based in the Western Local Land Services region and be a Local Land Services ratepayer
• do not have any outstanding rates, fees or payments to Local Land Services
• be part of a coordinated fox baiting group
• holdings located in areas where wild dogs are present must have previously purchased fox baits since 1 March 2025
• landholders must hold AQF3 or Vertebrate Pesticides Induction Training (VPIT) certification. VPIT can be completed online via www.nsw.gov.au/vpit
