Unlock your farm’s potential: LANDSCAN workshops to begin soon
The opportunity for land managers to participate in the next round of LANDSCAN – Landscape and Soil Test Interpretation for Sustainable Pasture and Land Management courses is here.
South East Local Land Services is offering LANDSCAN workshops in the Bega Valley, Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Palerang regions, with the first sessions to be held in September 2025.
Senior Agricultural Advisor, Jo Powells says the course is designed to help producers build their understanding of their landscapes and their soils limitations.
“LANDSCAN takes a hands-on learning approach with the workshops conducted on group members’ properties,” she said.
“It combines theory and practical experience out in the paddock, with the course presented over a series of 6 half-day workshops that are usually held 4 to 6 weeks apart over an 8-month period.”
Participants will gain skills in soil testing, test interpretation and soil fertility management.
LANDSCAN helps participants:
- develop skills and knowledge to assess natural resources on farms (pastures, vegetation, soils and topography) to better match land use to land capability
- make more informed decisions about managing landscapes and allocating resources to better balance production, profit and sustainability
- understand how to explain and make decisions about complex, often inter-related issues like soil acidity, ground cover, pasture and nutrient decline
- develop a sound basis for developing or modifying a farm plan.
The course is suitable for land managers of any sized property who are interested in learning more about sustainably managing their natural resources.
A participant who recently completed the course said, “The workshops improved my sense of land management and helped me think more analytically about balancing the inputs and outputs on my property.”
LANDSCAN is subsidised by South East Local Land Services, with the cost of the course only $300 plus GST per farm business. This covers two soil tests, 6 face-to-face workshops, a workshop training manual and morning tea at each session.
