Workshop to support small acreage landholders
Hunter Local Land Services is inviting small acreage landholders to take part in a two-day permaculture design workshop in Scone this June, following strong demand for its recent Small Farms Series.
Delivered in partnership with Limestone Permaculture and supported by Upper Hunter Landcare, the workshop will provide practical, hands-on guidance to help landholders design more productive, resilient and sustainable properties.
Hunter Local Land Services General Manager Brett Miners said the continued growth of lifestyle and small-acreage properties across the Hunter highlighted the need for accessible, practical training.
“The Hunter region continues to see growth in small-acreage properties, hobby farms and lifestyle landholders,” Mr Miners said.
“While individually small, these properties collectively manage significant areas of the landscape and play an important role in biodiversity, local food production and regional biosecurity.
“This workshop is designed to give landholders practical tools they can apply immediately – whether they are just starting out or looking to refine how their property functions.”
The in-depth workshop will explore whole-system thinking, regenerative property design and climate-smart land management approaches that support both productivity and environmental outcomes.
On the first day, participants will learn how to assess and map their property to plan and manage land more holistically, and design practical systems that improve efficiency and resilience.
The second day will offer a deep dive into homesteading for efficiency and resilience, designing animal management, garden and orchard systems, resilient dams and ponds, disaster and climate‑ready planning, plus an overview of the Limestone Permaculture journey.
