Project overview
Local Land Services has undertaken a feasibility study for a facility to be primarily used by livestock carriers for the purpose of cleaning livestock carrying crates.
Project objectives
This project investigated the feasibility of establishing a truck wash in Broken Hill. This includes evaluating design, costs, and benefits for use as a livestock biosecurity hub.
Project delivery
Local Land Services commissioned NSW Public Works to deliver:
- an options study
- a detailed business case
- finalise the Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE)
- pre-concept design documentation
- progress to pre-detail design documentation for a new truck wash facility.
Work underway
- The above works have been completed and a final report was provided to Local Land Services in November 2025.
- Local Land Services is currently reviewing the report and assessing the merits of the project.
- Local Land Services is engaging with stakeholders about the potential funding and delivery of the project.
Project updates
- NSW Public Works completed a tender to undertake the above works in September 2023, with a contractor formally engaged and on site from February 2024.
- Further field assessments were undertaken during the second half of 2024
- A variation to the contract to enable additional design specifications to ensure the design and costs include best practice for wastewater treatment has occurred.
