Clinical Pharmacist Yee Chin Kwang Named Allied Health Clinician of the Year
As a clinical pharmacist at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, Yee Chin Kwang has built an impressive career focused on improving medication safety, advancing research and strengthening education for healthcare professionals.

Since joining Murrumbidgee Local Health District in 2022, she has become known for her clinical leadership, innovation and commitment to delivering better outcomes for patients.
That dedication has now been recognised with Yee Chin being awarded the 2026 Allied Health Clinician of the Year at the MLHD Excellence Awards earlier this year.
When asked how it felt to be recognised for her hard work, Yee Chin said she felt “incredibly honoured.”
“To be recognised among so many outstanding allied health professionals was deeply rewarding and reaffirmed the value that pharmacists contribute to patient care every day” she said.
For Yee Chin, the award is recognition not only of her own efforts, but of the teamwork and collaboration behind every improvement in patient care.
“Winning this award is an incredible honour as it recognises the work I have invested over the years to improve medication safety, lead research and quality improvement initiatives and support education across MLHD,” she said.
“It is also a wonderful reminder of why I entered the profession: to contribute to the care of some of our most vulnerable patients, particularly during acute illness, through safe, evidence-based medication management.”
“While I am proud of those achievements, they would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of the multidisciplinary teams I have worked alongside.”
Over the past year, Yee Chin has continued to make a significant impact across the district. One of the first pharmacists at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital to become credentialed in Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting, she embraced a new model of care designed to improve medication safety and patient outcomes.
Recognising a gap in pharmacy education, she also organised and coordinated weekly education and journal club sessions to support professional development and encourage a culture of continuous learning. The program has since expanded across MLHD through Microsoft Teams, helping pharmacy staff share knowledge and promote consistent, evidence-informed practice. To date, Yee Chin has contributed to 39 education sessions.
Her passion for improving patient care is also reflected in her research and quality improvement work. Leading the HOMEFREE research study at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, she established a multidisciplinary team focused on improving the timely transition of paediatric patients from intravenous to oral antibiotics which subsequently shortening their length of stay.
Yee Chin also led a quality improvement project aimed at reducing delays in the administration of Parkinson’s disease medications. Through the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission Clinical Leadership Program, the initiative improved on-time medication administration from 46 per cent to 71 per cent on the orthopaedic ward, with plans for broader implementation.
Reflecting on her career, Yee Chin said the award is her proudest achievement to date, but it is the relationships built along the way that have been most meaningful.
“Beyond the award itself, I am most proud of the relationships I have built with clinicians across disciplines and the opportunities those collaborations have created to improve patient care, support colleagues and drive meaningful change within the health service.”
Through her clinical leadership, collaboration and unwavering commitment to patient safety, Yee Chin continues to make a lasting difference for patients, colleagues and communities across MLHD.
