DanceMoves for healthy ageing
Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) is excited to be supporting a DanceMoves volunteer in Albury to support physical activity for healthy ageing.
Albury’s Diella Wade has recently been trained by Dance Health Alliance and MLHD, to deliver the 45-minute dance class for older people living in the community.
DanceMoves is a 45-minute, chair-based dancing program focused on increasing health, wellbeing and social connection for older adults.
Participants work on improving strength, balance, coordination and cognitive engagement, while dancing seated or standing with great music.
“No matter people’s dance experience, or ability, everyone is welcome, everyone is a dancer in these classes,” Ms Wade said.
MLHD Healthy Ageing Health Promotion Officer Carly Barnes saidMLHD supports volunteers in 50 communities across the District to provide low-cost exercise opportunities
“We know the importance of regular physical activity to maintain good health. DanceMoves will not only help to improve physical health but is a great way to meet new people and have a laugh along with great music,” Ms Barnes said.
Classes are running weekly on Thursdays at 9.30am at Albury PCYC. Participants are asked to contribute a gold coin.
