Completed work with Local Land Services
In October 2012, the NSW Government announced amalgamation of the services of Catchment Management Authorities, Livestock Health and Pest Authorities and some of the then Department of Primary Industries extension services into one Local Land Services agency.
In 2013, the Government established an independent Stakeholder Reference Panel to guide the development of Local Land Services, and recommend the best model for the new Local Land Services agency.
Chaired by the then Natural Resources Commissioner, Dr John Keniry, the reference panel worked with community and stakeholder groups to identify how the new agency can best deliver valuable services to the people of rural and regional NSW.
Members of the reference panel included representatives from NSW Farmers, Australian Farm Institute, Livestock Health and Pest Authorities, Catchment Management Authorities, then Department of Primary Industries, NSW Shires Association, Landcare and Greening Australia.
In April 2013, the reference panel handed its recommendations to the then Minister for Primary Industries.
The NSW Parliament passed the Local Land Services Bill 2013 in June 2013, paving the way for 11 regional Local Land Services organisations. The Local Land Services Act 2013 became fully operational in January 2014.
