The Natural Resources Commission has developed a draft Land Management Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) Framework in consultation with Local Land Services and the independent expert panel.
The Framework will:
- monitor the ongoing effectiveness of the Land Management Framework on rural regulated land
- provide data and evidence to inform continual improvement to minimise environmental risks
- include regular and ongoing reporting on the outcomes of the Land Management Framework.
We have provided the final Framework to Local Land Services after considering feedback from Local Land Services, the expert panel and other agencies including Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Progress update
We have:
- reviewed emerging and good practice approaches for MER Frameworks
- co-designed a draft Framework with Local Land Services and the expert panel
- provided a draft Framework to agencies for feedback.
- delivered a final Framework to Local Land Services.
Expert panel
We appointed the following independent experts to the panel to advise on the land management MER framework:
- Dr Neil Byron – expert in agricultural/ and environmental policy and economics
- Dr Sheridan Coakes – expert in social impact assessment
- Dr Charlie Zammit – expert in ecology of agricultural ecosystems
- Mr Jim Binney – expert in agricultural economics.
The panel had the same membership as the independent expert advisory panel that provided guidance to the statutory review of the native vegetation provisions of the Local Land Services Act 2013. They were selected for their knowledge and expertise.
