New issues brief published: providing planned environmental water during drought
The Natural Resources Commission has published a new water sharing plan reviews issue brief related to providing for planned environmental water during drought.
The brief builds on our recent reviews of 5 inland regulated river water sharing plans and highlights opportunities to improve how water sharing plans manage water during drought.
The new issue brief discusses how existing plan provisions can be strengthened to better protect and provide for planned environmental water during dry periods, helping to support environmental outcomes when water resources are under the drought pressure.
This is the second in a new series of issues briefs on drought management and follows our issue brief on drought management principles, published in July 2026.
