New issues brief published: principles for drought management
The Natural Resources Commission has published a new WSP issues brief - Principles for drought management.
The brief builds on the Commission’s recent reviews of five inland regulated river water sharing plans and highlights opportunities to improve how water sharing plans manage water during drought. It focuses on the need for clearer and more transparent approaches to sharing water during drought, particularly to support critical human, environmental and cultural needs.
This is the first in a new series of issues briefs on drought management and follows the Commission’s earlier issues briefs on long-term average annual extraction limits, published in 2023.
The latest issues brief is available here.
