Blue Mountains Hospital expands emergency care workforce with enrolled nurses
Enrolled nurses are set to join the team at Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital’s emergency department for the very first time.

This exciting development is a result of the statewide implementation of safe staffing levels at NSW public hospitals, which has increased the scope of the emergency department’s nursing workforce.
An enrolled nurse is a nurse who has completed a diploma-level qualification. They provide direct patient care with supervision from a registered nurse or nurse practitioner.
Blue Mountains Hospital’s Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Naomi Jensen understands better than most the appeal of this opportunity for enrolled nurses.
Naomi began her career as an enrolled nurse at Blue Mountains Hospital in 1991. Her subsequent professional journey has culminated in her current position as the head of the hospital’s nursing workforce.
“It has been great to see how the enrolled nursing role has expanded over time within this hospital,” Naomi says.
“It’s particularly exciting for me to see such a great professional development opportunity being offered to enrolled nurses.”
Naomi says the roles within the emergency department guarantee hands-on experience with a skilled team of emergency care professionals.
“Our enrolled nurses will be in the thick of it, working under the guidance of a fantastic and supportive team as they develop their critical care skills.”
Valuable education support is provided to all enrolled nurses at Blue Mountains Hospital. Clinical nurse educators are employed in each specialty area with overarching support and structured onsite education delivered by a facility nurse educator.
