Blue Mountains Hospital receives generous artwork donation
Anna Marshall knows all too well the feeling of walking through a hospital corridor. As a retired nurse she has spent her entire career caring for others, however following unexpected leg injury she found herself on the flipside of a profession she truly loved.

While recovering from a broken femur that required surgery, Anna spent time in the Blue Mountains Hospital’s physiotherapy department. So impressed with the care received and her experience at the hospital she left behind a lasting memento for the clinical team and future patients to enjoy.
“I saw a blank wall in the physiotherapy gym and thought to myself, ‘I’ve just got the perfect painting for this space.’ I wanted to contribute something that would brighten up the area and bring a little joy to others.”
The painting she generously donated is an abstract work featuring lush greenery cascading over a wall., with a cat sitting at the bottom waiting for the prospect of mice.

“It’s a bit of fun—something light-hearted to bring a smile to people as they go about their recovery.”
Anna’s artistic journey began in 1984 when she started taking art lessons during a period when her family was away.
What began as a hobby quickly blossomed into a passion, and Anna became well-known for her painted T-shirts and jumpers featuring Australian animals. Over the years, she has won several awards for her work being recognised through local art awards.
“The staff, especially the physiotherapists, were wonderful during my recovery. They helped me get back on my feet, and I wanted to give back in some way. Art was the perfect way for me to do that.”
Thank you, Anna, for your generous artwork donation, bringing a pop of colour to the ward for our patients and staff to enjoy.
