In 2024, dedicated teams and individuals were recognised by the community. This included:
Maternity Unit, Blue Mountains Hospital
The Maternity Unit at Blue Mountains Hospital provides exceptional and collaborative care to the community.
Led by Nursing and Midwifery Unit Manager, Reenie Kuypers, midwives and physicians are always willing to collaborate in achieving the best possible outcomes for the women in their care.
From helping women access services, providing consultations, booking clinics and ultrasounds, and caring for inpatient women, the Maternity Unit should be recognised and celebrated for providing a comprehensive and collaborative service to the women and families of the Blue Mountains.
Hannah Smith, Lithgow Hospital
Hannah will go above and beyond to make sure her patients are comfortable, supported and satisfied. She will always say yes to help any colleagues no matter if she is snowed under with her own work or about to finish her shift. Her work ethic is next level, working full time and doing multiple overtime shifts to help out the team. She is a legend of the Lithgow Hospital and is well respected from all her colleagues!
Following is one of many lovely comments left for Hannah - "Hannah is the most beautiful midwife. Her kind, funny, gracious and intelligent manner made our family feel very safe when we had our last baby. She goes above and beyond for her patients and that shows as so many of our friends have recommended her. Thanks again Hannah."
Kimberley Grime, Building Strong Foundations Midwife
In her position as a midwife, Kim embodies exceptional qualities, demonstrating professionalism and empathy in every interaction. She ensures that her patients are well-informed, explaining details clearly to empower them in their care decisions.
Kim consistently goes above and beyond, being available outside of regular hours to provide reassurance and support during stressful moments. Her gentle and compassionate approach, particularly in challenging situations, fosters a sense of safety and trust. She actively encourages her patients to research and engage in their health choices, valuing their input and concerns.
With her extensive knowledge and flexible support, Kim prepares families for motherhood while maintaining a cheerful and caring demeanour, making her an invaluable resource for those she serves.
Hospital in the Home (HiTH)
Below is a statement written by a patient who has received care from Hospital in the Home. They exemplify the teams excellence and demonstrate they are a deserving winner of this award.
“I have been receiving Infusions for many years and in the past seven years I have been receiving Weekly Sub-Cutaneous Infusions of Immunoglobulin. These Infusions have changed my life dramatically and have meant I have had fewer Infections. Most of all though, I haven’t had a Hospital Admission as a result of a Respiratory Infection for some 14 years. I have always found that the Infusion Service provides great care, kindness and compassion to their Patients. Staff are exceptional and I find Weekly Visits pleasant because the Centre is a professionally run, calm & kind place where patients feel at Home. I personally can never thank the Staff enough for what they have done for me over the years, and I owe them a debt of gratitude because thanks to the Service provided, my quality of life has improved so greatly.”
