Eyes on new Nepean Hospital service
For the first time, Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District patients will have access to enhanced Eye Services from mid-2025.

The new service at Nepean Hospital will mean patients will no longer have to travel out of the District for some more complex treatments and care.
The introduction of the new service will see elective cataract surgical services transfer from Blue Mountains Hospital to Nepean.
Patients already booked to have cataract eye surgery at Blue Mountains Hospital will not be impacted by this change.
However from April 2025, Blue Mountains Hospital will no longer accept referrals for cataract eye surgery.
Cataract eye surgery will continue to be available at Lithgow and Hawkesbury Hospitals, and from July 2025 also Nepean Hospital.
The changes will help NBMLHD deliver 24/7 access to specialised ophthalmology consultations for our clinicians at hospitals across the District.
The changes will also allow other additional surgical services to soon be available at Blue Mountains Hospital.
We are working to ensure a smooth transition for patients and staff. There will be no impact on waiting times for elective surgery.
We are updating local GPs and other referring clinicians regarding the changes.
