Mason began his career as an Allied Health Assistant Trainee and relentlessly pursued his passion, eventually becoming a qualified physiotherapist through studies at Western Sydney University.
Mason's dedication extends far beyond his clinical duties. He is a passionate advocate for culturally safe healthcare, working tirelessly to bridge the health disparities faced by Aboriginal communities. His innovative "Your Way" project, created in collaboration with the Indigenous community, has achieved a large increase in pulmonary rehabilitation attendance, significantly improving patient outcomes.
Shelley Boyle, Physiotherapy Head of Department, praised Mason as a deserving finalist.
"Mason is breaking down barriers in Aboriginal healthcare. He mentors junior Aboriginal health care staff, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed," says Shelley.
“He's also working with Western Sydney University to ensure they provide a culturally appropriate curriculum and working to ensure better outcomes for his community.”
Mason has been learning the Wiradjuri language and has courageously delivered the Acknowledgment to Country in Wiradjuri to Nepean Hospital’s Physiotherapy team. With pride, he wears the Aboriginal Flag on his badge, allowing patients to easily recognise him as an Aboriginal Health worker, further strengthening connections with the community.
Mason's passion for closing the health gap for Aboriginal people fuels his tireless efforts.
Let's celebrate Mason's remarkable dedication and wish him the very best at the awards, which will be celebrated on 27 March 2025.
