Health Inspirations program expands to Lithgow high schools
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District’s renowned work experience program, Health Inspirations, has expanded to Lithgow Hospital, offering local high school students their first taste of a career in health.

Nineteen students from Lithgow High School, Portland Central School, La Salle Academy, and Katoomba High School recently participated in the two-day work experience program, making its debut at Lithgow Hospital.
The Health Inspirations program gives students access to interactive workshops and engaging experiences that prompt them to see how their interests, skills, and personal attributes can lead to a career in health. Participants went on supervised ward visits, talked to health professionals, and were able to immerse themselves in a working hospital environment.
Students had a unique opportunity to learn from staff across a wide range of specialties including, Emergency, Birthing and Theatres, Imaging, Physiotherapy and Community Nursing. The program also highlighted the crucial contribution of non-clinical roles such as Security, Administration and Patient Records all integral staff of any hospital.
“It was fantastic to see the level of interest from students at our local high schools,” says Lithgow Hospital Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Danell Thompson.
“It also provided a culture boost to staff who thoroughly enjoyed being able to share their knowledge over the two days”.
With a decade of proven success at Nepean Hospital, the Health Inspirations program is dedicated to providing culturally safe and inclusive care. Its expansion to Lithgow Hospital is anticipated to achieve the same positive outcome for local students.
Health Inspirations will return to Lithgow Hospital in September 2025. For more information visit: Introduction to Health Care Program
