The NSW tolled motorway network

The NSW tolled motorway network includes publicly operated and privately operated motorways:

• two operated by NSW Motorways
• 10 operated by private concessionaires
• two new motorways currently in delivery.

Publicly operated motorways

NSW Motorways is the custodian of government-owned and operated motorways. These include the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel.

The Western Harbour Tunnel and M6 Motorway are currently in delivery and will be operated by NSW Motorways.

Privately operated motorways

NSW Motorways oversees more than 160km of privately operated motorways. This oversight is delivered through Public Private Partnerships.

Under these partnerships, private partners operate and maintain the motorways for a fixed term. When these fixed terms end, the motorways return to public ownership. They will then be operated and maintained by NSW Motorways on behalf of the NSW Government.

Motorways under concession include:

• Hills M2 Motorway (concession until June 2048)
• Westlink M7 Motorway (concession until September 2051)
• Lane Cove Tunnel and Military Rd E-Ramps (concession until June 2048)
• Cross City Tunnel (concession until December 2035)
• Eastern Distributor (concession until July 2048)
• M5 South West Motorway (concession until December 2060)
• NorthConnex (concession until June 2048)
• WestConnex M4 (concession until December 2060)
• WestConnex New M5 (M8 and M5 East) (concession until December 2060)
• WestConnex M4-M5 Link (concession until December 2060)
