Home rebuilds | Resilient Homes Program
This section outlines grants available for destroyed or severely damaged homes as part of the Resilient Homes Program.
Home Rebuild grants for destroyed or severely properties
Home rebuilds are a resilient measure that is available through the Resilient Homes Program.
For eligible homeowners, funding of up to $100,000 (GST inclusive) is available to help with the cost of rebuilding or re-establishing a more resilient home where their original property was destroyed or severely damaged by the 2022 floods.
Funding can also be used to demolish the existing dwelling, and move a ready-made dwelling onto the property.
The Program also has grants available for large lots and landslides, including up to $600,000 (GST inclusive) for a retreat grant or up to $100,000 (GST inclusive) towards the relocation of the home to safer land or off the property for a relocation grant.
How much funding is available?
Up to $100,000 (GST inclusive) will be available for a home rebuild under the proposed grant.
I have been offered a Home Rebuild. Can I receive a Home Buyback instead?
Unfortunately, no. Homes prioritised for Resilient Measures do not have the same flood risk as a home prioritised for a Home Buyback.
The Program is being prioritised to address the greatest risk to life in future floods. Based on the flood mapping and analysis, Home Buybacks are for homes which have the greatest risk to life in most floods.
Homeowners can request an internal review or can appeal a decision of RA, under the Program.
What happens if the grant funding being offered is not enough to take the action needed?
If a homeowner is eligible for grant funding for Resilient Measures, but the estimated cost of the work is more than the available grant amount, RA will match the financial contribution by the homeowner up to a maximum of 100% of the available grant amount. This is called a co-contribution.
What if I can’t afford a co-contribution?
Where the Home Assessment works cost estimate is greater than the available grant, and the homeowner cannot afford to provide a co-contribution, the Resilient Homes Program team will work with the homeowner towards a resolution on a case-by-case basis and aligned with the Program’s Individual and Exceptional Circumstances Policy.
