Developed in consultation with First Nations businesses, the paper further supports over 5000 First Nations business owners in NSW to participate economically in a way that is self-determined and aligned with First Nations values and aspirations.
Providing multiple benefits to individuals and communities alike, First Nations businesses provide pathways to financial security and autonomy through employment while facilitating meaningful connections to culture and avenues for healing
The paper also identifies barriers that disproportionately impact the sector such as access to financial capital, insurance requirements and availability, access to culturally appropriate business support and digital technologies, and land access and use. Other focus areas include creating pathways for First Nations women into business and continuous improvement of procurement policies.
The paper aligns with NSW Government’s National Partnership on Closing the Gap to enable First Nations businesses in NSW to participate economically in a way that is self-determined and affiliated with First Nations values and aspirations.
