Foyer Central's 5th birthday celebration
Foyer Central recently celebrated their fifth year of delivery.
Foyer Central
Located in Chippendale, Foyer Central is a purpose-built accommodation and learning centre supporting young people aged 18 to 22 with experience of out-of-home care. The program provides a stable, affordable home for up to two years, alongside individual coaching to support young people build skills and confidence as they transition to independent living.
Celebrating Five Years
Foyer Central recently celebrated five years of supporting young people, marking the milestone with current and former residents, partner organisations – Uniting, St George Community Housing and SVA, State and Federal governments. OSII has been privileged to be a part of this journey from its inception, collaborating with our partners to deliver Foyer Central with young people at the centre.
The highlight of the event was hearing from the young people about their experiences at Foyer - building routines, developing self-confidence, returning to study, securing employment and forging new friendships.
Learning and growing
Over its first five years, Foyer Central received close to 800 referrals and supported more than 150 young people, around 30 per cent of whom identify as First Nations. The program has achieved sustained housing, education and/or employment outcomes for over 40 per cent of the 78 young people in the 12-months after they have completed the program.
You can learn more about the Foyer Central’s journey to date in the baseline and interim evaluations.
Looking ahead
As Foyer Central enters its next 5 years, we continue to work closely with our partners to refine and improve our approach, while staying true to the program’s core. Insights will be shared and applied to continuously improve the program and inform broader policy and service design across the out-of-home care and youth housing systems.
