Unwin Street site remediation
The NSW Government is completing remediation works to make the site safe for community use and support the expansion of Wolli Creek Regional Park.
What’s happening
The Waste Assets Management Corporation within Property and Development NSW, in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Lands, is working to remediate contaminated land at 14–18 Unwin Street, Earlwood.
Canterbury–Bankstown Council approved the remediation works, marking a key milestone in preparing the site for inclusion in the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service’s Wolli Creek Regional Park.
Remediation works
The works focus on making the land suitable for future public use. Activities include:
- removing vegetation within the project area to enable access and remediation
- removing surface and sub–surface building waste and contamination
- installing a clean capping layer to contain any remaining material that may be contaminated
- stabilising the site with native planting and soil erosion prevention measures.
These works started in July 2026 and weather permitting, are expected to be completed by September 2026.
Traffic management measures will be in place on Unwin Street and surrounding areas during this period.
Next steps
The site will be transferred from the Office of Strategic Lands to the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
NPWS will manage all future works, including:
- restoration of native vegetation
- ongoing site management
- planning for future public access.
The site will then become part of Wolli Creek Regional Park, supporting recreation, enhancing biodiversity, and contributing to a healthier natural environment for the community.
