Asbestos remediation works at Cooma Hospital this August
Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 4 August 2025 to complete an internal strip-out and demolition of the ‘Old Pathology’ space on Level A of Cooma District Hospital, with completion expected by the end of the month.
The works also involves the removal and disposal of vinyl flooring and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) scheduled to start on Thursday 14 August 2025.
A NSW Class A licenced asbestos removal company will conduct the asbestos removal. A NSW licenced, asbestos assessor will provide oversight of the removal, air monitoring during the removal works, and provide clearance on completion. All asbestos containing material will be double bagged in approved asbestos disposal bags for removal from the hospital premises. SafeWork NSW will be notified of this work occurring.
At no stage will staff, patients, visitor or the public be exposed to asbestos containing material. The area of works will be suitably quarantined from all adjoining spaces and will have appropriate signage.
Patients, staff and visitors will not be able to access the area. Access and circulation via the main corridors to adjoining areas on Level A will not be impacted.
