The Big Red Kidney Bus is coming to Cooma, enabling people living with end-stage kidney disease to enjoy the beautiful sights of winter in the Snowy Mountains while receiving lifesaving dialysis treatment.
Kidney Health Australia’s mobile dialysis bus allows families and individuals around Australia to leave their homes and have a holiday while still being able to continue their dialysis treatment.
In partnership with Royal North Shore Hospital, the Big Red Kidney Bus has capacity to provide up to 1,500 dialysis treatments a year under the expert care of the Royal North Shore Hospital dialysis team.
The bus will be based at Cooma Hospital from 30 June to 26 July 2025.
The Big Red Kidney Bus features three comfortable dialysis chairs with individual entertainment systems and wheelchair access.
With three morning and three evening sessions available from Monday to Saturday on each bus, haemodialysis consumers can book a trip away with family and friends while maintaining their regular in-centre dialysis routine.
It travels to various popular holiday spots in NSW and Victoria throughout the year.
As well as the winter visit to Cooma, the bus will visit Merimbula from 15 September to 25 October 2025, and Batemans Bay from 3 November to 6 December 2025.
The Big Red Kidney Bus is open to all Australians on hospital, satellite or home haemodialysis, with full admission criteria found on the Kidney Health Australia website at kidney.org.au/bus
