Communities across Southern NSW have welcomed cooler temperatures, and respite from days of heatwave conditions and bushfire warnings – with fingers crossed for rain in parts today and the coming week.
However, with a number of bushfires still burning in and around our region, Southern NSW Local Health District is remaining vigilant and encouraging staff and other community members to do the same.
We are all grateful for the efforts of firefighters and those who have kept us safe during this challenging week, especially our staff who continue to respond and meet the needs of their community in circumstances that can be personally and professionally challenging. Thank you.
These days have been a good test of our emergency planning and procedures but given the weeks of summer that remain and the bushfire threat that continues to burn in our landscape, Southern NSW Local Health District will continue to monitor conditions and work with partner agencies.
While the main threat has eased, bushfire smoke and air quality concerns will linger for some time. Bushfire smoke can affect your health and can make some people’s existing health conditions worse.

These unsettling few days have come with heightened emotions and anxiety in the community. It is normal to experience a range of feelings at these times – especially considering our region’s bushfire history.
It's very important to take care of yourself and know that you are not alone. Check in with others during this time, share how you are feeling and see what support you can offer each other.

For the time being, this will be the final update from Southern NSW Local Health District. Our emergency management team is standing down and will assess the lessons learned from this experience and be ready to step up again if needed. Staff are encouraged to share what they know with their manager.
We are grateful to be part of a strong, skilled, and connected community who understand the need to stay informed, be prepared, and support each other.
