Thanks to the dedicated support of BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc (BDCUGHF), our patients now benefit from vital new pieces of equipment.
BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc (BDCUGHF) has long been an important partner for Southern NSW Local Health District. This dedicated committee raises funds that directly support patients at Goulburn Base Hospital and Community Health - and every dollar stays local, helping our teams deliver high-quality, safe care when it’s needed most.
A new tonometer in the Goulburn Base Hospital Emergency Department is helping diagnose serious eye emergencies, such as acute closed angle glaucoma, much faster - which can prevent permanent vision loss.
“Until the tonometer was available, we couldn’t accurately measure eye pressure - a test that’s vitally important for time-critical diagnosis,” explained Dr Peter Smith, Director of Emergency Medicine.
“We used to press on the eye and guess whether it felt like a grape or a marble. Now, we can quickly get accurate measurements, have more informed discussions with the Ophthalmology team, and start treatment sooner - giving patients a much better chance of keeping their sight. We are extremely grateful for this important device.”
A vein finder for Goulburn Community Nursing and Hospital in the Home is also making treatment more comfortable and less stressful for patients who need frequent infusions.
“The vein finder has become truly invaluable,” said Kim Patton, Nurse Unit Manager. “It’s made our patients more confident and comfortable during their care and has reduced the number of cannulation attempts they have to endure. We are deeply thankful to BDCUGHF for their kind donation - our patients are too.”
A new non-invasive haemodynamic Cardiac Output Monitor for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) gives our critical care teams advanced, real-time data to help them make the best decisions for our sickest patients, when every second counts. This technology supports safer monitoring and treatment for people in our community when they’re at their most vulnerable.
These donations mean our patients have access to better diagnostic tools, more comfortable treatment, and world-class care closer to home - all thanks to the generosity and community spirit of BDCU Goulburn Hospital Fundraising Inc and their supporters.
