Southern’s pharmacy team were on show in two presentations at the 2025 Australian Society of Infectious Diseases (ASID) Annual Scientific Meeting in Canberra this week.
The ASID Annual Scientific Meeting is the peak Australasian meeting for adult and paediatric infectious disease and clinical microbiology specialists.
Network Chief Pharmacists Zeeshan Naseer (Inland) and Amelia Stanley (Coastal) (pictured above) shared their implementation of case-based rounding using telehealth across our District to optimise the use of antimicrobial medications, in partnership with Dr Ian Marr, an Infectious Diseases Physician at Canberra Health Services, and our on-site medical practitioners. Through their work, compliance with Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) guidelines at Southern increased from 40% to 64% after implementing virtual AMS rounding.
Queanbeyan Hospital’s Ammar Altayib and Chun Hong Chan (Tom) also presented on their experiences as pharmacists as part of the team implementing Hospital in the Home (HiTH).
