Staff from across Southern’s Inland Network have welcomed Bridie and Bianca from Get Skilled Access to Queanbeyan Hospital and Goulburn Base Hospital, as part of the Inclusive Healthcare Program.
The program is designed to strengthen disability inclusion in healthcare by providing education and training designed and delivered by people with lived experience of disability. Founded by Paralympian and disability advocate Dylan Alcott, Get Skilled Access has partnered with eight Local Health Districts across NSW, including Southern, to roll out the program.
As part of the session, staff had a hands-on experience navigating the hospital in a wheelchair and using weights to simulate impaired balance, providing valuable insight into the challenges faced by patients with mobility limitations.

The program also involves a review of hospital practices and processes, along with tailored education for Inland Network staff on disability awareness, accessibility, and inclusion - helping to create a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.
