Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) is proud to provide accessible, caring and safe maternity services for the regional communities we serve.
It is a privilege to support local families through pregnancy, birth and the early days of parenthood.
We understand members of our community have recently raised questions about maternity services at Queanbeyan Hospital.
As we continue to strengthen and grow our maternity service and our models of care, we have been working closely with midwives, general practitioner obstetricians, and obstetricians to support the future of the service. During this period, we have experienced temporary rostering challenges.
We want to reassure our community that maternity services at Queanbeyan Hospital continue to be delivered safely and effectively. Experienced maternity clinicians have continued to support the service and provide high-quality care for women, babies and families.
Our experienced midwifery team continues to provide care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, supporting women, babies and families every step of the way.
Should a woman or baby require specialist obstetric support while receiving care at Queanbeyan Hospital, arrangements are in place to ensure access to appropriate specialist obstetric advice and care when needed.
To further strengthen the service, we have appointed a temporary specialist Obstetric Head of Department to provide clinical leadership and support.
We recognise that pregnancy and birth are significant moments in people’s lives and that families may have questions about their care. We encourage anyone seeking further information to speak with the Queanbeyan Midwifery Unit Manager on (02) 6150 7190.
Further information about our current services, including a video tour of the Queanbeyan Maternity Service, can be found on our Pregnancy, Birth and Baby Services webpage.
