Southern is celebrating progress on the installation of a large solar project, an 850 kilowatt (kW) solar array at South East Regional Hospital in Bega.
The solar project will harness energy from the sun to assist in electricity provision to the hospital. The system is estimated to contribute to a reduction of over 1,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.
Todae Solar have completed the installation of 374 solar photo voltaic panels mounted on the roof of South East Regional Hospital.
The remaining panels will be ground mounted in the hospital grounds to the northeast. When complete, the solar system will provide expected savings of approximately $240,000 in annual electricity bills, with an anticipated payback period on investment of 5 years.
Southern is investing in solar power with funding provided through the Ministry of Health Energy Efficiency Fund.
