In 2022 there was an Inquiry into the appointment of the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner (STIC) to the Americas. The STIC role is a public service role which should be politically impartial and recruited based on merit. The Inquiry looked into Mr John Barilaro, the former NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade, who was selected for the STIC Americas role.
The Hon Stuart Ayres MP was the Minister for Trade at the time of Mr Barilaro’s appointment. This report looked into whether Mr Ayres complied with the Ministerial Code of Conduct, ultimately finding that he had.
