The 2026 Census is happening on Tuesday 11 August 2026 across Australia. Every answer matters to help us understand what Australia needs now and into the future.
The Census is a snapshot of Australia’s people and housing and tells the story of how we are changing. Census data helps governments, community groups and businesses plan services for individuals, families and communities, where and when they are needed.
The next Census is on Tuesday 11 August 2026.
Every household and person in Australia on Census night must be included on a Census form, including visitors to Australia, international students and babies.

You can complete the census:
- online,

The information you provide in the Census is confidential and protected by law. Your information is not shared with anyone, including other government agencies.
