The Macquarie Park Bus Depot will accommodate around 150 battery electric buses, supporting public transport services to the lower North Shore and Northwest suburbs of Sydney, stretching to Chatswood and Parramatta.
Macquarie Park Bus Depot will be the first purpose-built battery electric bus depot delivered as part of the Zero Emission Buses Program, a NSW Government initiative to transition the State’s 8,000 plus diesel and natural gas public transport buses, to zero emissions technology by 2047.

Project information
Key features of the project include:
- Around 150 bus bays to accommodate a mixture of standard and extra-long (articulated) battery electric buses.
- Battery charging infrastructure, bus maintenance bays and a wash bay.
- Staff car parking providing around 150 spaces. Access to the staff carpark will be via Talavera Road.
- A multistorey staff and security building.
- Widening and upgrading Pittwater Road to enable bus access to and from the depot.
- Retention or re-alignment of the existing bike path linking the M2 Hills Motorway to Talavera Road (subject to further investigation during detailed design).
- New lighting, fencing, security booths and fire safety equipment.
Planning approval has been granted for the Macquarie Park Bus Depot, an infrastructure project jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments and delivered by Transport as part of the Zero Emission Buses Program.
This decision follows the public display of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and preparation of a Submissions Report.
We received 64 submissions during the public display period. Each submission has been considered and responded to anonymously in the Submissions Report.
The Submissions Report is available to view or download. (PDF 1.97MB)
Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond and provide feedback on the project.
Next steps
Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd has been awarded the design and construct contract to build the purpose-built battery depot which will feature both standard (75kW) and fast (150kW) plug-in chargers to suit operational requirements.
Subject to further investigation during detailed design, construction is expected to start in 2026 and be completed by 2028.
We will notify the community as the project progresses and in advance of any construction activities commencing.
