Transport is an enabler and is integral to the delivery of almost all government services. Local, state and federal governments must all work together to respond to the housing crisis, support the energy transition and Closing the Gap.
Our goal
Our goal is to play a significant role in contributing to the Government’s housing agenda, the transition to renewable energy, and Closing the Gap.
How we’ll achieve this goal
Support the NSW government to unlock well-located housing
Enabling more people to live closer to transport, jobs, health, education, recreation and amenities helps to reduce road congestion. This will be delivered through:
- Targeting housing growth around existing or planned public transport infrastructure.
- Investing in on-street transit to support the delivery of housing.
- Improving connections to and from rail stations.
- Improved active transport connections to and across public transport.
Energy transition
The NSW Government is leading the transformation of the State's electricity system with the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. Transport can support the energy transition through:
- Ensuring the state road network can accommodate the delivery of oversize overmass components required to deliver the Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) and priority transmission projects.
Committed to Closing the Gap
Transport has a key role in providing access to health care, goods and services. Transport supports Aboriginal people to achieve education, social and economic outcomes and maintain cultural obligations to travel for family commitments. We are focusing our efforts by:
- Addressing the transport inequity experienced by Aboriginal people.
Connecting Aboriginal people safely to the economy and socially through transport solutions.
Planning and placemaking to support our community and Country.
Supporting Aboriginal economic independence.
Driving transformative action to deliver systemic change.
Case study: Renewables Transportation – Port to Renewable Energy Zones (REZ)
To help with the state’s energy transition, we will work with EnergyCo to deliver the Port to REZ program, which will ensure a coordinated approach to:
- road upgrades
- approvals
- permits
- traffic management and
- safety measures for the State classified road network.
This coordinated approach will enable the safe and efficient transportation of oversize over-mass movements, initially from the Port of Newcastle to renewable energy zones along state classified roads and enable critical investment in major renewable energy projects.
