Our roads are now moving more vehicles and freight than ever before, increasing costs for maintenance and upgrades. Ageing rail infrastructure impacts its reliability, causing delays and outages. This requires a large, ongoing maintenance schedule.
Our goal
Our goal is to restore reliability and improve network resilience to minimise disruptions, and to support the preparedness and resilience of communities to natural disasters and emergencies.
How we’ll achieve this goal
Restoring reliability
We are working hard to restore reliability to our transport network, increasing our investment, including:
- Increasing investment in maintenance.
- Responding to recommendations from the recent independent reviews examining the transport system in NSW.
Improving network resilience
Providing communities, customers and passengers with network alternatives makes the network more resilient and can prevent or minimise transport disruptions. Improvements to network resilience will include:
- Improving the resilience freight networks to support regional communities and regional economic growth.
- Prioritising strategic asset upgrades.
- Minimising transport disruptions through improving incident response.
Case study: Real-time information for a better customer service
The Bus Transport Management System (BTMS) is a new technology system that will improve the experience of passengers, drivers and bus operators across the 5000 buses in Greater Sydney and outer metropolitan areas.
The BTMS will bring many new and enhanced capabilities such as:
- increased real time tracking of buses
- onboard next stop information
- accurate passenger patronage data
- modern driver aids
- disruption management features and
- electric bus battery management.
BTMS has partnered with the Opal Next Generation program for procurement and delivery.
