The NSW Government is starting a conversation with community, councils, industry and partners about their ideas, experiences and insights. This Discussion Paper (PDF 3.07MB) explores the issues, challenges and opportunities to make walking easier, safer and more accessible for everyone.
Walking, running and wheeling are fundamental to how people move around NSW. All journeys and recreation activities include these components, whether travelling to public transport, shops, school or work, or enjoying parks and community spaces. The quality of walking environments shapes everyday life, health and access to opportunity, making walkability a cornerstone of a fair, connected and high performing transport system.
The Discussion Paper has identified four focus areas, which are to:

To Have Your Say on the Walkable NSW Discussion Paper visit the Have Your Say website. This feedback will help us in the next stage of development to ensure the NSW Walking Strategy best meets the needs of the community now and into the future.
Roundtable discussions with key stakeholders including councils, advocacy groups, industry and delivery partners will be held in mid 2026.
