Important city-shaping projects make travel faster, easier and safer to get around Sydney. These improvements may also impact your commute to the office. Here are some helpful general tips for both employees and employers.
For employees
While we appreciate that not everybody has the same work flexibility and transport options available to them, here are some general rules to follow to achieve a more sustainable transport network:
Leave the car at home – For a smoother commute, leave the car at home and take the bus, train or the ferry.

Travel earlier or later – If you must drive to the office, leave home earlier or later to beat the traffic.

Travel on Monday or Friday – For further information, see Bicycles and E-Bikes in NSW or the specific bike courses organised by the Travel Choices team.

For employers
The Travel Choices team can partner with you to provide specific guidance to suit your business objectives for when and how employees commute to work. In the meantime, here are three simple things you can do as an employer:
Inform – Tell employees about the transport network changes, and that they may experience delays when commuting to the office. Pass on the Travel Choices commuting advice above to support sustainable travel.

Be flexible – Encourage employees to commute to the office on quieter days and outside the peak, where possible.

Lead – Model the desired behaviour by requesting leaders share how they have changed their commutes to a more sustainable travel choice.
