Introduction of MyMedicare

This is a free service that will advise your general medical practice that you have chosen them to be your regular care team and additional funding will be available from the government to help provide the care you may need.

Patients who register with MyMedicare, will have access to benefits including:

• better continuity of care with your registered practice which will lead to improving health outcomes
• longer telehealth consultations with your GP that are funded by the Medicare Benefit Scheme (MBS)
• people living in residential aged care will have access to more regular visits from their GP from August 2024
• people who frequently visit hospital will have connections to more appropriate care in general practice from mid-2024.

Eligibility

To be eligible to register you will require:

• Medicare card or DVA card
• face-to-face visits with the same practice including:         
  • one face-to-face visit for remote locations
  • two face-to-face visits in the last 24 months for practices in other locations.

There are exemptions for eligibility requirements for people who are experiencing domestic and family violence and homelessness.

Registration

You can register for MyMedicare and select your preferred general practitioner at:

• any accredited general practice
• Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service
• Aboriginal Medical Service
• nurse practitioner-led practice with a GP
• any other non-traditional practice that can meet the healthcare provider registration and eligibility criteria.

You can withdraw your registration from MyMedicare at any time.

When you register with MyMedicare all your personal information will be secure and your privacy maintained.
