Facilitated by Mirii Art, staff from across NSW Trustee and Guardian created an artwork that reflects the journeys of our people and the communities we support. It celebrates connection, cultural strength and the values that bring us together.
The artwork's title was submitted by Karen Zelinsky from the Public Guardian division. Walking Together: Trust, Respect, Connection was chosen because it beautifully reflects the values and themes woven through the artwork. The title captures a shared commitment to walking alongside one another with trust, respect and understanding, and reflects the sense of purpose and connection at the heart of NSW Trustee and Guardian.
From Mirii Art: The story behind the artwork At the centre of the artwork are three meeting places. The two semi-circles represent NSW Trustee and the Public Guardian, while the larger circle symbolises their unification under NSW Trustee and Guardian. Five smaller meeting places acknowledge the support teams across the organisation and the important role they play in helping us deliver services across NSW.
Flowing waterways connect staff and communities, carrying life, stories and shared experiences throughout the artwork. Footprints represent the diverse journeys of staff and the people they assist, recognising the many paths that come together through NSW Trustee and Guardian's work.
Surrounding these pathways are natural elements including seashells and native plants such as wattle, lemon myrtle, pig face, tea tree and gum leaves. These symbols represent healing, gathering, cultural traditions and connection to Country.
Animal tracks honour the presence of native wildlife across the lands on which we live and work. Turtles feature throughout the artwork as symbols of guidance, connection and enduring relationships between people, communities and the natural world.
Along the base of the artwork are five pillars of strength aligned with NSW Trustee and Guardian's values. Coolamons and dilly bags are woven throughout the design, representing the carrying of knowledge, resources and support. Together, they reflect the shared effort that strengthens both our organisation and the communities we serve.
A shared commitment
The artwork tells a story of trust, respect and connection and acknowledges the rich histories, cultures and continuing contributions of Aboriginal peoples.
Displayed across NSW Trustee and Guardian offices, Walking Together: Trust, Respect, Connection serves as a lasting reminder of the importance of collaboration, cultural respect and the relationships at the heart of our work. It reflects our commitment to supporting people with dignity while continuing to learn from and engage with the communities we serve.
