Patients to benefit from game-changing diagnostic imaging services at Cowra Hospital
Patients at Cowra Health Service will benefit from access to new and advanced diagnostic imaging closer to home, with CT and ultrasound services now online as part of the staged opening of the new $110.2 million Cowra hospital.

Cowra Health Service Chief Radiographer Victoria Young said bringing new and enhanced imaging services online marks an important milestone for the hospital, and will reduce the need for patients to travel for some essential scans, improving continuity of care.
“Introducing these services at Cowra Hospital for the first time will significantly strengthen our local diagnostic services and is major step forward not just for our health service, but for our entire community as well,” Ms Young said.
“Having CT and ultrasound capabilities here at Cowra will allow our clinicians to make faster, more informed decisions, which can be absolutely critical in emergency situations or for patients requiring ongoing care and treatment.
“Along with reducing the need for some patients to travel, which is particularly important for families and older residents, these new services will also ease some pressure on neighbouring facilities and complement the existing service providers in Cowra.”
“Being able to provide this type of advanced imaging will make a meaningful difference to patient experience and outcomes, and our team is incredibly proud to be delivering these services for the first time at Cowra Hospital.”
CT is an advanced imaging technique, which provides more detail and precision than standard X-rays, to help diagnose internal injuries, tumours, infections and diseases, and better inform care plans for patients regarding their treatment options.
Ultrasound services use high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of organs, tissues and blood flow, allowing clinicians to diagnose and monitor a wide range of conditions, guide procedures and support multi-disciplinary care.
The new comprehensive ultrasound service will be available for all patients at Cowra from today.
The CT service is available for emergency and admitted patients, with full capacity for outpatient care staggered as part of the staged opening of services throughout 2026.
As further services come online in the coming weeks, such as the expanded dental clinic, work will continue on the final stage of the redevelopment, including the demolition of the former hospital and subsequent construction of the facility’s new carpark in its place, and extensive external landscaping.
The community is reminded that as demolition work is undertaken, access to all services remains through the new emergency department entrance off Brisbane Street. Temporary signage is in place across the hospital campus to direct the community.
Additional support services are being explored to minimise disruption, and patients and visitors are encouraged to to allow additional travel time when visiting the new hospital.
When complete, the new carpark will provide car spaces adjacent to the hospital’s main entrance, including several new accessible car spaces.
