Zauner Construction has been engaged to build the new facility following a competitive tender process and with the contract now awarded, the next steps of the project involve finalising the detailed design and architectural plans.
Canowindra Health Service Manager Matt McGrath said the community can expect to see activity on site increase quickly in the coming weeks, as the final preparations are put in place before the main works will begin.
“We’ve reached a really exciting stage of the process for such an important development, and throughout this process we’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community,” Mr McGrath said.
“I’m thrilled we are now a huge step closer to delivering a brand-new, purpose-built facility for everyone not just in Canowindra, but also people who live in the surrounding areas of the region and come into town for care.
“Our project team is now putting plans in place to ensure everyone’s safety during construction. This will include extensive traffic management plans which may cause some slight disruption as you’d expect with any major redevelopment.”
Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said with services integrated on one site, the new Canowindra HealthOne will not just improve access to care but also reduce the need for people to travel to access different services.
“I’m delighted we have reached this milestone for the new Canowindra HealthOne. It is terrific to see the project progressing, bringing the community much closer to integrated healthcare services," Mr Park said.
“With integrated primary and community care services in a purpose-built facility and the hospital next door, the new HealthOne will create a seamless transition as people move between hospital, primary and community care.”
Planning and design of the HealthOne has involved extensive consultation with healthcare providers and stakeholders, including hospital staff and GPs, to ensure the best outcome for the community.
The new facility has also been designed with scope to expand, to help provide attractive opportunities for new healthcare professionals to establish themselves in a friendly, welcoming community.
Construction of the Canowindra HealthOne facility is expected to begin in the coming weeks and be complete in early 2026.
