The centenary of Bloomfield Hospital is a chance to reflect on the lived and living experiences of those who have received or provided care here. Their stories have contributed to the history and journey of mental health care in NSW.
Bloomfield Hospital - then and now
Did you know Bloomfield Hospital in Orange:
• was established in 1925 as one of only three, dedicated mental health facilities in rural NSW
• holds state heritage significance, due to its historical and architectural importance as a mental health facility
• was set up based on treatment ideas and methods from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Today, Bloomfield continues to offer mental health, drug and alcohol care through hospital and community based services.
Mental health care has significantly evolved over the years and so has the Bloomfield campus site, with new units established and new Orange Hospital also built on the campus, opening in 2011.
