The Department of Pharmacy at Westmead Hospital recently marked World Pharmacists Day with a morning tea celebration, bringing together staff to reflect on the vital contributions pharmacists make to patient care and the broader health system across Western Sydney Local Health District.
This year’s theme, ‘Think Health, Think Pharmacist’, served as a timely reminder of the essential role pharmacists play in advancing health and wellbeing.
The event was an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, expertise and compassion of pharmacy staff working across wards, dispensaries, and support services.
Director of Pharmacy Anthony Lamproglou opened the celebration by recognising the team’s ongoing commitment.
Whether you’re working on the wards, in dispensaries, or supporting our systems and services, your expertise, compassion, and commitment make a profound difference.

“Pharmacists, especially in the face of ongoing challenges, have not gone unnoticed. From ensuring safe and effective medication use to driving innovation in patient care, you continue to uphold the highest standards of our profession.
I’m proud to work alongside such a passionate and skilled group of professionals.”
Deputy Director Lorraine Koller echoed this sentiment, sharing the consistent praise pharmacy staff receive from nursing teams.
“I always hear positive feedback about how helpful and responsive our pharmacy staff are, pharmacists, technicians and assistants alike. Your presence on the wards is something they genuinely look forward to,” Lorraine said.
The event also featured reflections from clinical staff, highlighting the real-world impact of pharmacy expertise.
Winnie Zhao, Clinical Lead Pharmacist, spoke about the value of pharmacists’ clinical knowledge.
“Being on the wards has shown me how much our expertise contributes, not just to patient care, but also in supporting doctors and nurses with personal health advice,” Winnie said.
Your knowledge matters.
