Going in to bat for those who have cancer
Patient legacy leaves a lasting impact – Thornleigh Baseball Club’s ongoing commitment to Westmead Hospital’s Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre.

The Thornleigh Baseball Club has been recognised for more than two decades of service and fundraising for the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre at Westmead Hospital.
Each year the baseball team in Sydney’s north runs a fundraiser, donating more than $70,000 in the past ten years.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre ‘Geraldine Fund’ was established with a clear and compassionate purpose: to provide emergency financial support to individuals and families facing the overwhelming burden of cancer treatment.
The fund was established to honour young mum Geraldine, a passionate baseballer, diagnosed with cancer more than twenty years ago.
Geraldine was treated at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre, and her club continued to support the centre as a lasting legacy to Geraldine.
Verity Ahern specialises in radiation treatment and says gifts like these are precious and impactful.
"We are so honoured by the community support provided by the Thornleigh Baseball Club, their generosity has helped improve the life of countless others who have come to our centre, like Geraldine did,” Verity said.
Today, the Geraldine Fund continues to carry forward that spirit of compassion.
It offers practical, one-off financial relief to cancer patients - helping with everyday essentials such as paying utility bills, putting food on the table, covering fuel costs to attend treatment, or even offering a short break away with loved ones.
These are not just financial contributions; they are gestures of care, dignity, and hope at a time when people need it most.
Over the years, this story has been enriched by the remarkable support of the Thornleigh Baseball Club.
Through heartfelt initiatives such as the Pink Test matches, community BBQs, and dedicated fundraising efforts, the club has become an enduring part of this journey.
Their commitment and generosity have helped transform countless difficult days into moments of relief and reassurance.
More than just supporters, the Thornleigh Baseball Club has become part of the story - standing alongside patients and families, quietly making a difference when it matters most.
The Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre remain deeply grateful for their ongoing partnership of the Thornleigh Baseball Club and the spirit of community they embody.
