Former Michael Hill administrative professional Carolyn Casey (pictured above, left) has found her sparkle in her career at Blacktown Hospital – this time, not in diamonds but in healthcare.
Five years after joining Blacktown Hospital, Carolyn is now one of four outstanding individuals recognised at a BMDH event held to mark Administrative Professionals Day.
The ceremony, led by Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals (BMDH) Acting General Manager Kelly Watson and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Director of Corporate Services Kat Volas, recognised the contributions of administrative staff at BMDH.
Carolyn said she finds deep meaning in her work supporting both patients and colleagues.
“I love the fact that I really do feel like I’m helping patients,” she said.
“I used to pack and sort fancy diamonds which was really fun – but I have found health to be really rewarding, I really feel I have found my niche in life within healthcare.”
On a day-to-day basis Carolyn supports patients who have been newly diagnosed with diabetes, as well as patients with gestational diabetes, ensuring they get the care they need. She also supports various doctors within Blacktown Hospital.
Carolyn expressed gratitude for her team’s support.
“Thank you for the surprise and the nomination, it really meant a lot.”

Award-winner Carolyn offered advice for those considering a role in health administration.
“Be thorough. Follow your instincts and make sure people are properly followed up—even if you’ve already sent a message,” she said. “Especially in health, some enquiries are urgent.”
Administrative Professionals Day is celebrated annually to acknowledge the work of receptionists, executive assistants, office managers, and other vital administrative staff. Originating in the 1950s as National Secretaries Day, the event has grown to reflect the evolving and essential roles of modern administrative professionals.
