About our Prevention Education and Research Unit
The Prevention Education and Research Unit (PERU) was established in 1995. We lead community and school-based programs that prevent illness and build health leadership.
Our vision
We aim to use research-based prevention and education to improve health equity for all.
Our objectives
- promote health and wellbeing for everyone
- help young people develop leadership and advocacy skills
- serve the community
- build partnerships to support collaborative research.
What we do
We deliver prevention programs that build community skills in:
- healthy eating and physical activity
- asthma management
- preventing and stopping vaping
- preventing and stopping smoking
- supporting adolescents to make healthy choices in high schools and universities.
Our programs show positive results. We work closely with many services and organisations, with strong support from the Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD) and the Research and Education Network.
