About our service
Our emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays. They provide urgent care for serious illness or injury that needs immediate medical attention.
Patients are treated according to how urgent their condition is, not the order they arrive. This process is called triage.
What to expect
- When you arrive, a triage nurse will assess your condition and assign a category from 1 to 5 based on urgency.
- Patients with life-threatening or high-risk conditions are treated first.
- You may be asked not to eat or drink until after your assessment.
- Tests such as blood work or imaging may be required before you are treated or referred.
What to bring
- Medicare card and any concession or health care cards
- photo identification
- a list of your current medicines
- contact details for your general practitioner
- any relevant medical documents or history
- an interpreter or support person if needed.
